Opuntia phaeacantha - Prickly Pear, New Mexico Prickly Pear


Location: Piņon/Juniper

Description: These spiny colonies of pads are in Ponderosa forests as well as Pinon and Juniper country. The flowers are yellow and bright, sometimes with hints of other colors. The petals are tissue paper-thin. Prickly Pear vary greatly in appearance and this species hybridizes with O. polyacantha.
