Abies concolor - White Fir

Pinaceae

Location: Montane

Description: Lovely, magestic trees. You'll see these on Missionary Ridge (many large ones were burnt in the fire). The needles have an almost succulent appearance and are blue-green, sometimes grey-blue. There is a fantastic specimen where Hoffhein's Connection & the Colorado Trail intersect. The sap has a citrus smell that is unmistakable. Young trees have a graceful appearance and when early morning sunlight shines through the needles the resulting glow is nothing short of magical. So much a for a scientific description eh?
