Description:

Smooth Sumac is easy to miss in the summer, as it is low growing and inconspicious. Individual specimens can get quite large in the lower/warmer areas to the west (Naturita) but in the Durango area it seldom is taller than 4 feet. It is very showy in the autumn with brilliant red fall color. The flower clusters are greenish, changing eventually to rusty red drupes and finally brown.
