Allium cernuum

Nodding Onion

Family: Alliaceae
Type: Herbaceous
Location: Lower-Foothills, Upper-Foothills, Lower-Montane
Flower Color: Pink, Purple
Fall Color: Not Available
Time of Interest: May, June, July, August
Description:

Pink fireworks! These delicate yet exciting flowers arise from clumps that are common in the rich soils under oakbrush. They're often found in large colonies. The same warning comes with all wild onions in our area: Death Camas looks very similar before flowering, and is very poisonous. For this reason we advise against consuming any wild onions. That said, the flowers (which also have a distinct onion smell) can make a lovely garnish.
