Bearberry, or more specifically "bear grapes" (the translation of uva-ursi) are a low growing plant in the Heath family that produces red berries in the fall. The leaves are shiny and evergreen and densely arranged on short stems. The leaves are darker and rounder than the related Bilberry. Kinnikinnick is a name given to the plant by eastern Native Americans who smoked the leaves blended with other plants.
